Five Bills supporting Living Longer, Living Better introduced to the House of Representatives, March 2013.

In March 2013, five bills were introduced to the House of Representatives, which propose amendments to the Aged Care Act 1997.

The introduction of the bills will underpin the Gillard Government’s proposed Living Longer, Living Better aged care reform, and although it has been nearly a year since the reform was proposed, the introduction of the bills does mean that some details of the reforms are now available.

The bills are: Aged Care (Bond Security) Amendment Bill 2013 and the Aged Care (Bond Security) Levy Amendment Bill 2013 and the Aged Care (Living Longer Living Better) Bill 2013 and the Australian Aged Care Quality Agency (Transitional Provisions) Bill 2013 and the Australian Aged Care Quality Agency Bill 2013.

These bills have not yet been debated or voted on. They will require the support of the Greens, Independents and the Opposition and will need to be voted on and passed through both Houses prior to June 27th which is the last sitting day before the election.
