The shift towards consumer contributions to care and possible inequities

The Council of Social Services NSW (NCOSS) have provided a comprehensive summary of the newly named Home Care Packages and a view of what recipients of these packages can expect.

The NCOSS summary questioned how well pre-defined levels of packages fit with the aspirations of Consumer Directed Care (CDC), highlighting that other examples internationally have gone further to provide direct control and portability. NCOSS alerts consumers that the financing for aged care is being shifted towards consumer contributions and the inequities this may produce.
